MET GALA 2014 FASHION ROAST & REVIEW (charles james: beyond fashion)

Considering the 2020 Met Gala has been postponed to at least October, I couldn’t not talk about the Met Gala on the First Monday in May. So I thought we should discuss the 2014 Met Gala, which focused on the talented American designer Charles James. No, not James Charles, Charles James, who invented fashion staples like the strapless dress, the wrap dress, the sports bra, and more! So sit back and relax as we discuss the red carpet, and look at some cool fashion history from the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s! I mean the man that inspired Cristobal Balenciaga and Christian Dior NEEDS to be discussed.

  23. Catherine Ginn says

I do appreciate that, rather than wear a normal and more modern looking version of a suit, some of the men fully committed to the version of menswear that would’ve been worn either during or just after the time period (late nineteenth century) that Charles James often referenced in some of his gowns (particularly those with bustles or bustle like designs). Perhaps this is just me really searching for the connection (since, as Luke mentions, Charles James didn’t do any menswear), but either way I appreciate the look.
